Indonesia and Qatar Strengthen Strategic Partnership through Inaugural Political Consultation in Jakarta

Jakarta, 15 June 2026 – The First Political Consultation between the Republic of Indonesia and the State of Qatar was convened today in Jakarta. The meeting was led by H.E. Muhammad Anis Matta, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, and H.E. Sultan bin Saad bin Sultan Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar.

The inaugural consultation marked an important milestone in strengthening the longstanding friendship and partnership between Indonesia and Qatar, while establishing a more structured framework for cooperation on bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest.

Among the key outcomes achieved was the agreement to convene a Strategic Dialogue at the level of the Minister of Foreign Affairs this year, with a focus on advancing bilateral cooperation across the areas of political, defence and security, economic, as well as social and cultural fields.

During the meeting, both delegations agreed to expedite the finalisation of a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) currently under negotiation, covering, inter alia, the areas of culture, higher education, science and technology, manpower, as well as counter-terrorism.

Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination within regional and multilateral fora, including through mutual support for the candidatures of both countries in various international organisations, as well as enhancing coordination to address global challenges such as climate change, food security, and energy transition, including within the framework of South-South Cooperation.

In particular, both sides exchanged views on recent developments in ASEAN and the GCC. With regard to the latest escalation in the Middle East, both sides shared a common position on the importance of de-escalation, respect for international law, state sovereignty, and the resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

On the Question of Palestine, both sides reaffirmed their steadfast support for the struggle of the Palestinian people and nation, calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, unimpeded humanitarian access, and the importance of resuming a peaceful political process towards the realisation of an independent and fully sovereign Palestinian State, on the basis of the Two-State Solution, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
